1) Eggs done any way. Really quick, hard boil some earlier in the week so you can grab one or two to go. Add a banana or some other easy fruit and a glass of milk, and you're good to go!

2)Chicken or tuna salad on whole grain crackers or pretzels, baby carrots, some sort of fruit (yumm watermelon), and maybe a teeny tiny salad (spinach and grape tomatoes and peppers).

3) Whatever Hans decides to make. :)

4) Watermelon and Canteloupe!!!

5) No clue, but to prep him, I bet you could steam them and then gradually steam them less and less.

7) Yes. Sometimes I leave without buying things that ARE on my list.

8) Liquor. :P Actually, I did hear of someone who announced on the plane that every time her child cried she'd by everyone a drink. It helped to get the people off her back, but it probably wasn't so economical.

9) The only draw back I could see would be if the stewards made you turn it off before a program / movie was over. That could cause a temper tantrum.

10) As often as possible...at least once a day, sometimes more.

11) I don't use work out DVDs anymore, but I used to love Turbo Jam by Beach Body. If you'd like, I can bring them to the beach to be seen.

12) It has to be large enough to carry a book. Oh, and a zipper top is a must.

13) One thing? We make our own jam.

14) It depends on what it is. The question I always ask myself is, "Will the dogs destroy it?" If the answer is yes, I go for the cheaper thing. If the answer is no, I look for quality. Example: Non-work clothes- Quality. Shelf in laundry room to store dog supplies: Quantity.

16) Would you know I was lying if I answered Pinochle? Cranium, badminton or anything with a Frisbee depending on the situation and the mood.

17) I don't watch a lot of game shows, so no.

18) Ummm, of course! Not at midnight, but on the evening of the 15th.

19)I was never able to answer that question when I was younger, but I often circled around vet or teacher. In middle and high school I wanted to work in music. Now, I work with dogs and people.

20) The wiggly body, wagging tail, and exuberant kisses of Duke, one of the dogs staying at my house.

I like your new layout! Unique and nice looking.

1. Scrambled egg and toast? (I scramble the egg, cook it in the micro for 30 seconds, let sit 2 min.)

2. When I worked it was a PB&J, apple, carrot sticks, and some small something sweet.

3. The kids just keep getting pickier... hmmm... burgers have been a big hit lately.

4. I need to figure this out myself!

5. Now, if he wants. Joe was later because he didn't like hard foods.

6. Beck likes grape tomatoes, mushrooms, snap peas... both will eat leftover cooked veggies - which come in handy for quick lunches.

7. If Greg's along!

8. I could talk your ear off with travel tips. Email me if you have questions. My biggest suggestion is to stay engaged with the child as much as possible.

9. We don't have a travel DVD. Seems like more hassle than it is worth and we've noticed behavior gets worse as screen time increases. But, also sounds like fun at times.

10. Every 2 or 3 weeks. (But I always plan for once a week!)

11. No, but I keep hearing good things about Jillian's DVDs.

12. I'm still in diaper bag mode.

13. That old saying "wear it out, use it up, make do, do without" as much as feasible.

14. A little of both - depending on what the object is.

15. I like your hair.

16. I like Uno because the whole family can play. We play 500 with Greg's parents.

17. I would like to be on a game show... but am not sure which one right now...

18. No, but I'm tempted to read the series again!

19. mom, teacher, paleontologist, zoologist

20. Laughing with Greg while he installed the baby gate.

EDH said...

1. What is your favorite (quick) and healthy breakfast?
VitaTops, toasted waffle with almond butter, or oatmeal

2. What is your favorite healthy lunch?
salad (usually spinach + deli turkey + lots of veggies + light dressing)

3. What is your favorite family dinner?
Baked ziti or tacos.

4. What is your favorite healthy snack?
Almonds, apple with peanut butter

5. When can you start feeding raw carrots (and crunchy harder to chew veggies) to toddlers?
Anna eats them at 2.5...

6. What other easy (don't need to cook them) veggies do your kids eat?
Cherry tomatoes, zucchini disks, cucumber disks, baby carrots, bell pepper strips, celery (which I hate, but she will eat it)

7. Have you ever left Target without buying something that wasn't on your list?
I think maybe once!

8. Any tips and tricks for week-long travel (flying) with a toddler?
Lots and lots of activities (Anna is VERY into stickers right now), carry all food in a separate bag (we use a neoprene lunch tote) so we can bring our food through security w/o having to take it out, gate check your car seat and stroller...

9. Personal DVD players - a plus with toddlers flying or just more technology?
We have had one since long before Anna and really love it. We wore it out. It was great for long trips and we hook it up to the tv in our room so we don’t need a DVD player in there.

10. How often do you vacuum?
I never vacuum, but my husband does it probably 2-3x a week. :)

11. Do you have a favorite workout DVD?
Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. Brutal but awesome.

12. I need a new purse. What do you look for in a purse?
Sadly, I care more about style than function. ;) I don’t need one with lots of pockets/organizers because I carry everything in separate bags (I have my wallet, a bag with make-up/toothbrush/Kleenex/Advil/etc., a bag with spare diapers/bib/kid silverware, and a nylon envelope for coupons/bills). So I just look for something that’s pretty and not too heavy. :)

13. What is one thing you do as a family to save some money?
We don’t have cable.

14. What is your shopping philosophy: Do you buy cheaper items more often, or quality more expensive items that last?
Always quality. Which is why I should buy less at Target. :)

15. What should I do with my hair? (see pictures below for current lack-of-style)
I like that length on you! I think you’d look great with some long, side-swept bangs. Pretty pictures!

16. What is your favorite game to play? (board, card, or sport-type games acceptable)
Canasta!

17. Would you ever want to be on a game show on TV? If so, which ones?
Not my thing, although I’d be decent at Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy.

18. Are you going to go see the final Harry Potter movie?
Of course!

19. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A mother, a teacher, a lawyer, or a princess. 3 out of 4 is pretty good...

20. What made you smile today?
My client is getting to have a visit with his baby son today, whom he hasn’t seen for a long time. He was over the moon and it made me feel great!

Funsies!

1. What is your favorite (quick) and healthy breakfast? Bran flakes from Trader Joe's (only $1.99 a box and they are SO good!) and I add my own raisins, blueberries, nuts, dried cranberries (you get the idea), + vanilla almondmilk.

2. What is your favorite healthy lunch? Egg salad, lowfat, of course.

3. What is your favorite family dinner? A Mexican feast prepared by my mom - tamales, in particular!

4. What is your favorite healthy snack? Strawberries on a very small slice of angelfood cake.

7. Have you ever left Target without buying something that wasn't on your list? I'm sure I have, when paying cash. Using credit makes it easier to splurge.

10. How often do you vacuum? Weekly, more often if we have company.

11. Do you have a favorite workout DVD? No, if I'm in the mood for a DVD workout I do a couple of the Spark People video workouts online.

12. I need a new purse. What do you look for in a purse? A long strap for my thick arms and a zipper so nothing falls out!

13. What is one thing you do as a family to save some money? See #7 - pay cash.

14. What is your shopping philosophy: Do you buy cheaper items more often, or quality more expensive items that last? Depends what I'm buying. Cheap clothes, expensive bed, etc.

15. What should I do with my hair? (see pictures below for current lack-of-style) A few more layers can always make big changes. A good, patient stylist is a must - and don't be afraid to take a chance... it grows back! :)

16. What is your favorite game to play? (board, card, or sport-type games acceptable) http://www.jenkatgames.com/online/Finders-Keepers/ (Yes, I'm biased!)

17. Would you ever want to be on a game show on TV? If so, which ones? Only if they brought the Match Game back!

18. Are you going to go see the final Harry Potter movie? Probably not. I'm ashamed to admit I've never read the books. On my list of things to do...

19. What did you want to be when you grew up? A gymnast, a writer, and a disc jockey. Now I want to be a photographer. Too late? ;)

20. What made you smile today? Stories courtesy of GymJim.

1. Wheat toast with almond butter and a banana.
2. Leftover taco soup--high in protein, low in calories.
3. Raspberry Balsamic Chicken.
4. Apple and Cheese or Almond Butter
5. For me, it depended on how many teeth and how well she was doing eating other things. I still don't let Lizzy eat carrots that often unless I'm watching her.
6. We cook most of them, but Lizzy loves sweet potato fries, peas, corn, and butternut squash.
7. Yes, but only recently...and only because we're budgeted to the penny!
10. Not very often, but we have only one small area rug. I sweep almost every day.
11. YES--the Insanity series. 30 Day Shred is also good.
13. Total up groceries as we're shopping--including weighing produce. Once we reach our limit, we're done. We buy a lot less junk now.
14. It depends on the circumstance. For running shoes for example, I pick quality over price...but still look for the quality items on sale.
16. Blokus--and it's even great for toddlers.
17. I wouldn't really, but my husband is DYING to be on Wipeout.
18. We'll probably see it when it comes out on video. I'm not into them, but my husband is.
19. A marine biologist. Then a lawyer.

1 - I was told by a personal trainer to have at least 10 grams of protein in the AM, so I make sure I have 2 eggs and a slice of whole wheat toast in the AM. easiest thing to do is hard boil them on the weekend and make enough for each day. I have to do this to keep on track otherwise I eat other stuff, then I get hungry later. The protein is a MUST!

2. Chicken, brussel sprouts, berries.

3. Mexican or spaghetti! Flavor!

4. Hmm....I love Greek Goddess Yogurt- but it's higher in sugar (of course) - the girls and I love Honey and Strawberry. Otherwise we get protein bars at Sam's and I eat one each day- I LOVE the choc/PB ones

6. Keifer adores peppers- green or red, with ranch dressing to dip. Kyla will also dip them, but K1 will eat ALL veggies I put in front of her. I buy the pre-apart broccoli bags (more $$ but less time to hassle at night), a few peppers and carrot baby sticks or circles and the girls will get them at dinner.

7. NEVER!

8. I ditto the MORE the TV time, the MORE behavior might be for the worse- it's funny, isn't it? I'd say games, new books, new puppets - check out the $1 toy bins at Michaels' or Target?

9. Kyla just wants to play on her sister's IPod touch all.the.time. no need for a dvd player, then!

10. Not enough

11. Jillian 30 day shred is easy and I've heard good things- I don't like to do videos, I prefer the gym!

14. Depends on the items. I NEED good shoes, so I'll spend $$ on shoes and maybe 1 pair of "good" jeans, otherwise then it's "old navy" or whatever to "get by" for awhile. Once in a blue moon I'll buy a few $$$ shirts, but for work.

15. Go see someone new? Ask what they think? Maybe some more layers or a body perm or a few highlights?

16. Keifer LOVES Uno! :) Me- I love card games like cribbage

18. YES! Can't wait! So sad,though!

19. A teacher, a vet, a doctor, a waitress and a mom.

20. Coming home tonight, after a long day at a funeral in Duluth and Keifer screeching as I pulled into the driveway because I was home :)

Soupy said...

just thought of another snack I love- that fills the 'sweet" craving- tea! I buy a TON of flavored teas - lots of good tastes - like cinnamon apple - smells SO good and can get some cravings done with + you are adding WATER! :)

7. Have you ever left Target without buying something that wasn't on your list? YES oh YES!
8. Any tips and tricks for week-long travel (flying) with a toddler? Be flexible, don't plan too much, you'll just be dissapointed. We always try to fly at night (like 8 or 9 pm) and then he sleeps, and my #1 tip, buy a seat for your child on the plane (much safer) and bring their carseat on and strap them in it. They will be comfortable b/c it is what they are used to, and you will be more comfortable too. We have done this since my son's first trip at 11 months old.
9. Personal DVD players - a plus with toddlers flying or just more technology? Don't waste the $ just get an iPod touch instead. You can download any kids show for 1.99 or less on itunes.
10. How often do you vacuum? NEVER, I shockingly have a cleaning lady!
11. Do you have a favorite workout DVD? Nope... not a workout DVD person.
12. I need a new purse. What do you look for in a purse? Lots of compartments for organizing... I saw some super cute and cheap ones at Walmart yesterday.
13. What is one thing you do as a family to save some money? Budget using mint.com and eat at home as often as possible.
14. What is your shopping philosophy: Do you buy cheaper items more often, or quality more expensive items that last? Depends on the item... for something like an appliance... quality that will last longer, for shorter life items anyways... shirts, most clothes I usually do cheaper, look for sales, second hand etc.
15. What should I do with my hair? (see pictures below for current lack-of-style) I think it would look cute in an angled bob ... chin length.
16. What is your favorite game to play? (board, card, or sport-type games acceptable) Hmm... I like card games like Euchre and Spoons.
17. Would you ever want to be on a game show on TV? If so, which ones? Nope... ok, maybe Jeopardy but not like Wipeout or anything.
18. Are you going to go see the final Harry Potter movie? Yes, but I have to see the last one first!
19. What did you want to be when you grew up? Teacher
20. What made you smile today?
Making a mohawk for my little boy this morning.

1. What is your favorite (quick) and healthy breakfast? Egg & cheese on an english muffin

2. What is your favorite healthy lunch? I kinda forget about lunch most days.... it's not all that healthy, but John makes a killer grilled cheese sandwich. But we do use real cheddar, fresh tomato and oatnut bread, so I guess that's not too bad.

3. What is your favorite family dinner? Grilled salmon, fresh salad, homemade southern mac-n-cheese

4. What is your favorite healthy snack? Fruit - especially cherries and watermelon!

5. When can you start feeding raw carrots (and crunchy harder to chew veggies) to toddlers? 2-1/2 or 3... but then again, Siena was late with getting teeth, so maybe sooner??

6. What other easy (don't need to cook them) veggies do your kids eat? Siena isn't much of a veggie snacker - she prefers fruit - she loves blueberries, raspberries, bananas, apples, mandarin oranges and watermelon... and lately (and oddly!) pomegranate seeds! She will show interest in cherry tomatoes, but never seems to indulge more than one or two.

7. Have you ever left Target without buying something that wasn't on your list? Um, yah, every time!

8. Any tips and tricks for week-long travel (flying) with a toddler? iPad that's been downloaded with fave movies. Also the Elmo Road Trip song book, stickers (try the foam ones at Michaels - super fun!)

9. Personal DVD players - a plus with toddlers flying or just more technology? Definitely a plus. We go to our lake cabin 2 or 3 weekends a month and I couldn't do the 3 hour drive without it.

10. How often do you vacuum? Not often enough. Ideally would be twice a week, but we're lucky if we can once a week.

12. I need a new purse. What do you look for in a purse? Pockets, organization, spacious without looking like a saddle bag. Cute design. I just bought a Vera Bradley and am IN LOVE!

13. What is one thing you do as a family to save some money? I am an internet sleuth. I rarely shop IN stores... I find when I shop IN store, I tend to do more impulsive buying. Plus by shopping online, I can get the lowest prices possible, often without shipping or tax.

14. What is your shopping philosophy: Do you buy cheaper items more often, or quality more expensive items that last? Typically more expensive items that will last. Exceptions include clothes for my toddler, and fun, girly decor for my porch or office - stuff that I won't feel guilty getting rid of when a new design comes out that I like more. But decor for the rest of my house is typically meant to last.

15. What should I do with my hair? (see pictures below for current lack-of-style) I love your hair right now.

16. What is your favorite game to play? (board, card, or sport-type games acceptable) I love board games, Scrabble being my favorite. I also like Taboo, Balderdash, Cranium.... not a big fan of card games, but I love Oh Hell and occasional Gin Rummy.

17. Would you ever want to be on a game show on TV? If so, which ones? Probably not, but if I had to choose, probably Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

18. Are you going to go see the final Harry Potter movie? I never even saw the first... so probably not unless my kids someday have a passion for them...

19. What did you want to be when you grew up? A magazine editor and a DJ (both of which I was at some point!)

20. What made you smile today? My amazing daughter.

I love your new layout. It is now my answer to #20.

1. Carnation instant breakfast (powder is cheaper to buy than premixed)
2. Winter: soup & crackers. Summer: fresh fruits/veggies
3. Currently? Spicy peanut butter chicken (less than 5 ingredients; cooks in the crock pot!)
4. Apple and peanut butter.
5. Kenna already likes the matchstick carrots. Otherwise don’t know.
6. Frozen peas – she likes them frozen, or thawed but not cooked. And lettuce (no kidding)
7. Maybe once or twice.
8. Be prepared to take breaks; bring his favorite stuffed animal/blanket; ration the toys so every so often there are totally new things.
9. We used one to drive from WI to NC with a 1-year-old. I say indispensible for long trips until they are old enough to read/self-entertain. We DO NOT use it for shorter trips.
10. Rarely? I LOVE my Shark rechargeable carpet sweeper. We use that daily in the dining room, weekly everywhere else. (My house is kinda dirty, though)
11. I tend to tire of these easily.
12. Big enough but not too big; sturdy; not expensive; adjustable strap length.
13. Rarely go out to eat; pack lunches; quit Netflix and occasionally use RedBox instead.
14. Quality expensive items all the way. When we were younger we went with the cheaper items. We feel like we have learned our lesson there.
15. I’ve been growing mine out and will get it cut to donate to cancer kids this week. You should give that a try.
16. Cribbage with my family; archery with Larson; badminton with my sisters; the Hallway Game with Kenna.
17. Not if it’s going to be televised. If I can just play against friends or sisters for the fun? You bet. Sign me up for Jeopardy, Survivor and Amazing Race.
18. Yup, but not right away.
19. Which day are you asking? Paleontologist, astronaut, marine biologist, writer, veterinarian…
20. Not the good folks at Enterprise rent-a-car who screwed me and my youth trip.

LOVE the new look! Great header!

1. What is your favorite (quick) and healthy breakfast? High Fiber Quaker instant oatmeal, maple brown sugar flavor, with a tbsp of light pancake syrup on top.

2. What is your favorite healthy lunch? Chinese chicken salad (light dressing).

3. What is your favorite family dinner? Crab cakes and corn. Had it last Saturday!

4. What is your favorite healthy snack? Almonds - the trick is knowing when to stop!

5. When can you start feeding raw carrots (and crunchy harder to chew veggies) to toddlers? It's been a long time - mine is almost 18 - but I'm guessing when they've got sufficient teeth.

6. What other easy (don't need to cook them) veggies do your kids eat? Mine to this day LOVES cucumbers, and sugar snap peas off the vine.

7. Have you ever left Target without buying something that wasn't on your list? I've left Target buying nothing at all. It's completely up to what's on the clearance aisle-end shelves.

8. Any tips and tricks for week-long travel (flying) with a toddler? There's a whole website with great suggestions: flyingwithkids.com. Snacks, diversions, portable DVD player can all help, but what some parents seem to forget is that they don't get to tune out while on the plane. We endured a 6-hr nonstop flight with 3 badly-behaved (read: non-disciplined) toddlers directly behind us. I was still pulling Cheerios out of my hair when we got to Maui.

9. Personal DVD players - a plus with toddlers flying or just more technology? If they have a favorite, I think it could be a godsend.

10. How often do you vacuum? Umm, not often enough! Once a week. But the carpet is old so it doesn't get babied.

11. Do you have a favorite workout DVD? No - I try to walk or do strength training with weights, or swim every day. I'm a skier (albeit plus size) and I have to train daily.

12. I need a new purse. What do you look for in a purse? Something that doesn't look like Snooki would carry it. I've had no luck recently.

13. What is one thing you do as a family to save some money? Grow veggies and keep the eating-out to a minimum.

14. What is your shopping philosophy: Do you buy cheaper items more often, or quality more expensive items that last? Quality. We save up for it.

15. What should I do with my hair? (see pictures below for current lack-of-style) I am the wrong person to ask - I am severely hair-challenged. My stylist hit on something that is timeless about 7 years ago and it's still on my head!

16. What is your favorite game to play? (board, card, or sport-type games acceptable) Follow-the-leader while skiing, as long as we've agreed to stay off black slopes!

17. Would you ever want to be on a game show on TV? If so, which ones? Jeopardy.

18. Are you going to go see the final Harry Potter movie? Yes, once I get caught up on the last 3 via Netflix!

19. What did you want to be when you grew up? An actress.

20. What made you smile today? Rosalynn Carter's and Cokie Roberts' eulogies at Betty Ford's funeral. Classy, independent women.
