Oh, I have a blog?

So yeah, I have reflections and observations galore from my life right now that I want to write up and share here, but this moving thing?  Yeah, that is a beast.  My life is work and packing right now and all I really want to do when I'm not doing those things is nothing, so it looks like my blog is getting a bit of a rest this month.  I am working on some guest blog posts for the week of the move (anyone want to guest post) and have an exciting book review tomorrow but I'll be here when I get here.  I hope you will be patient with me.

In the meantime here are a few random thoughts:

* Why do we do daylight savings time?  I sort of get it but it just seems like we mess with our heads twice a year, and it seems even more difficult once you have kids.

* So Wednesday night I was told that little goat and I were "ruining church for everyone"   So that was fun.  Luckily I am staff and confident in my son's right to be there and the importance of him learning worship, but given all that Ash Wednesday means to me - yeah it was harsh.  (Also luckily the pastors and staff love kids in worship, even when they may yell Dada! and wave to the choir in the balcony, ahem)

* Why do I own so much stuff?  Seriously, we got rid of 6 kitchen trash bags to Good Will and there is still more I can get rid of - and that was just clothes and not counting the stuff worth consigning.  I really feel like I've somehow ended up more driven by material things than I want to be, and yet purging is surprisingly hard, but rewarding.

* I am giving myself permission not to feel guilt about things during the move.  I am still trying each day to make healthy choices but there is too much stress right now to worry about things after the fact.  Still I am so ready to be moved.

* I feel so bad for Japan.  My prayers are with the people there.  I also feel a bit of guilt that I have a cat named Tsunami - but we call her Tsu for short.

* I can't decide whether to paint baby goat's room or not when we get in the new house.  It is a generic beige now, which is fine but do I want something different?  Or should I just not worry about that with everything else that is happening during the move?

* Anyone have any tips for transitioning a toddler from one home to another?

* We have a Melissa and Doug puzzle that makes noise everytime the lights get turned off - it still freaks me out every time.  I don't know why that happens.

* I think we need more kids music CDs now that baby goat listens more attently.  What are your favorites?

* Should I run another 5k this summer?

That's it.  I'm going to go take a short rest and then back to packing.  I'll be around, just not as much until after the move and then I can tell you ALL about it (won't that be fun?) (Don't answer that!).

I say yes to another summer 5K. I'll do it with you.

My boy loved the backyardigans at baby goat's age. Fun music and different genres to listen to.

Don't worry about painting the room. It will be full of finger prints, crayons, and marker before you know it. Just let that one go until you actually need to paint it, and then let him choose a color?

Good luck with the move...I know what a pain it is, but it is totally worth it (as you probably already know!)

I'd say yes to the's always good to have something to work towards!

As for Baby Goat's room...I would recommend no, just because in a couple of years, he'll have more concrete opinions about what he likes and you'll just have to repaint then!

We have the same problem with one of our Melissa and Doug puzzles...the stupid thing makes an Elephant sound every time we turn out the lights. Annoying!

*I told a family in church this morning how much we love kids and their noise. Perhaps I should make sure everyone else knows that we love kids...

*if you want to paint, now is a good time to do it. Don't have to move furniture or live with fumes.

*Laurie Berkener Band is fun for kids, and not annoying for parents. Also, check out Joe Scruggs (esp Traffic Jams)

*Yes! Keep up your momentum and motivation. Another 5k sounds awesome.

The answer to the last question is YES. Because you know you can do it, and it would be awesome. Everything else you are on your own.

Also, I totally relate to the "too much stuff" comment... I wonder how I got all this s#!t sometimes.

Transitioning tip: Try to get his room done asap. It will help to have a place for him that is his. We always made sure the kids rooms were done right away.

Painting: If you want to paint, I'm with Sharon, it's a whole lot easier to do it when there is no furniture in it.

We love Laurie Berkner but we love love love Tom Pease. He is phenomenal. He's from Amhearst, WI and he comes to Hoover School and the library and does other shows during the year. And my mom knows him. :) We love his shows and we LOVE his music!

Do the 5K!

Hi Liz-- This is Kristen, Sharon's sister. Bet you didn't know I read your blog! (I spend way too much time reading blogs- mostly DS related, but I digress.)

I was just going to tell you that we moved when Zach was 2.25 and then again when he was 2.5, so close to Edward's age. He didn't seem to even notice, but the BEST thing we did was take him to the store and let him pick out a truck he REALLY wanted. Because it was new (and cool), he played with it for HOURS, giving us time to get things done.

Good luck with the move!

If you can get his room ready (I.e. bed assembled, toys in, etc) before he sees it that will help.

If you don't want to paint, what about putting up some inexpensive wall decals? It can be an easy and inexpensive way to personalize his room. Plus when he is old enough to have an opinion about what's hanging on his walls they are easy to change.

We LOVE Laurie Berkner. I don't mind having the songs stuck in my head. Victor Vito is one of my favorites! Good luck with the move!

Definately do another 5K. Is your cat unusually destructive? I love kids who make noise in church. It makes me feel less self conscious about making noise myself. I do not think people who don't like kids making noise in church, especially happy noise, but really any kind of noise, are very Jesus-like. I can't remember the names of my kids' two favorite CD's but one had a song on it called "My Best Friend is a Salamander," which I still sing all the time. And the other had a really fun song called, "Something's Going on in Nora's Room," which I can't help but sing whenever I'm around my daughter's friend Nora.

You sound swamped, and since I am contributing to that this month, I would be happy to write a guest post for you if you still want/need more. Just let me know!

And of course I say yes to the 5K. Or, pick another fitness challenge that sounds fun to you!

Music- We love Laurie Berkner- ALL her stuff. SO much fun.

I have some Imagination Movers cd's I can burn, if you want, just let me know.

I like to just go thru the kids' section at the library and explore. Putamayo Kids has some awesome mixes of songs! Many CD's.......

YES to the 5K , IF You can train!

I'd say YET to painting, before you move in, just because I'm all eager to change rooms, all the time, LOL- and a chance to decorate a new room would be so fun!
Does he have bedding w/colors? What about deep chocolate w/red and white trim? Just a thought..........

Not sure about moving! Good luck!

I can't believe someone would say that to you (about ruining church). What an awful person! I am glad you at least felt comfortable knowing you weren't in the wrong, but still pretty unpleasant. And you must have the same puzzle as us, farm animals, ours does the same thing even with all the pieces in place. Clearly haunted. Good luck with the move, it will be worth it in the end!

We have that puzzle. Just tonight during bedtime the pig went off. I try to hide it under something, but if it makes its way to the top of the pile we have that trouble.

The removable room decals are neat - there are so many types and boarders and stuff.

I don't think you have to worry much about transitioning your little guy. We just try to make the kids' rooms the first that are settled.

I really like Elizabeth Mitchell and Dan Zane for kids CDs. We have a Classics for Kids CD that has been played hundreds of times and a new Jazz for Kids that is a great mix of songs. They also like anything like Zydeco, brass band, Cuban, and things like that.

Check out They Might Be Giants' kids stuff. Personal favorite: "Here Comes Science". Also the two Yo Gabba Gabba CDs, of course.

Hmmm, you pick the 5K and this year I'll actually do it with you instead of falling off the 5K wagon.

One of our favorite children's CDs is Buckwheat Zydeco's "Choo Choo Bugaloo" - very engaging Cajun/Zydeco for kids, with a train trip to New Orleans narrative running through it. We still listen to it.

"Ruining church"? Wow. I suppose when he's old enough to contribute/pledge, their tune might change...

The last time we moved DS was 7 (he's 17 now!) and we got his room done first - mainly because it required new paint and carpet due to pet-of-former-owner issues, but he liked that his was done first.

Do the 5K - I started a more committed exercise program this year and I am very glad I did. At 50, my arthritic joints are MUCH happier!

Best of luck on your move!
