Day with the doctor

Well, baby goat had a check up at the doctor today. His current weight 8 lbs 7.5 oz. Which means he's gained 4 pounds since he was born. Not too shabby!

It also was time for some vaccines. I know there is so much contraversy about vaccines now but I really believe that they are mostly a positive thing and I don't want baby goat to suffer through more germs than he needs to.

Still, he didn't like the shots too much...

I live in a very anti-vaccine city (eugene, oregon), where they also don't fluoridize (is that a word?) the water, so i was recently at the pediatric dentist and not surprised to see a less-than-2-year-old child having to get a cavity filled. I thought this post by my favorite mom blogger, Dooce, very interesting when it comes to why she is pro vaccine: http://www.dooce.com/2009/04/07/word-or-two-about-vaccinations

What the people who are against vaccines seem to forget is that without them, people can get the diseases. My grandmother died at age 34 from diptheria, leaving my father, age 14 and his brother, age 5. Because of vaccines, one hardly ever hears of someone dying from diptheria or getting polio. When I was a child, polio was a very real fear and of course everytime I had a fever, I got a stiff neck, which terrified my parents. You'd better believe that as soon as the polio vaccine came out, they made sure that I got one. You did the right thing and don't let anyone tell you differently.

I don't know what got me more - the protruding lip or the spit bubble on it.
